**Item #:** SCP-1214
**Object Class:** Euclid (Request for Keter classification pending)
**Special Containment Procedures:** Item SCP-1214 is to be kept in a temperature controlled environment, specifically with no fewer than two portable backup storage units available. In the case of temperature control failure, the object and it's contents must be isolated and transported via portable temperature control units to another temperature controlled environment, typically within the next 2-3 hours.
SCP-1214 must under no circumstances be left unattended, or be exposed to room temperature for more than the time necessary for transfer between containers/controlled environments. SCP-1214 is to be stored within the 'safe zone' temperature range of 52-78˚C and any significant change in the behavior of the object is to be reported to duty staff on duty with at least clearance level 3 or above immediately. The liquid contents must not be allowed to cool below 45˚C or raise above 88˚C due to risk of a destabilization event.
**Description:** SCP-1214 is a cylindrical aluminum casing, with vacuum sealed composite plastic interior serving as an insulator. It has an internal capacity (suggested by exterior measurements) of approximately 410ml. The actual volume of liquid is unknown due to the constant effect of the vortex effect of SCP-1214. The vortex appears to be a stable and is regulated by the thermal state of the liquid surrounding it. The vortex does not seem to consume any of the liquid contents of SCP-1214 due to the centrifugal effect and gravitic forces it exerts, however, any solid materials added to the liquid appear to have various effects on the behavior of the vortex axis and core.
**Addendum:** Testing on SCP-1214 was undertaken to provide information of the capabilities and limitations of the vortex, and if it could be safely neutralized. Testing results are varied and notable tests listed below:
**Test 0001 - Date 16/05/2010**
> **Subject:** Vortex core velocity measurement.
> **Procedure:** Insertion of probe into SCP-1214 at various distances from axis to determine velocities.
> **Results:** No reading possible as probe arm snapped during primary insertion. Subsequent attempts resulted in the same.
> **Analysis:** Velocity sufficiently high to create terminal stress fracture in metals up to titanium alloy, near vortex core.
**Test 0002 - Date 18/05/2010**
> **Subject:** Liquid matter disposal
> **Procedure:** Attempted addition of liquids to SCP-1214 via remote decantation.
> **Results:** Regardless of the type of liquid, or the quantity thereof decanted, the volume of liquid contained by SCP-1214 appears to be unchanged.
> **Analysis:** Surplus liquid is absorbed into the core of the vortex.
**Test 0003 - Date 18/05/2010**
> **Subject:** Solid matter disposal
> **Procedure:** Attempted addition of liquids to SCP-1214 via remote robotic arm
> **Results:** Solids added to the vortex produced various results with one similarity. The vortex converted the solids into liquid in a matter of seconds. The process was hazardous however, as the velocity of the vortex hurled debris with tremendous force, damaging the laboratory walls and (as later found) breaching the containment of several neighboring foundation artifacts. Quarantine imposed on ████ area of ████████ facility. Fragments of debris are reported to have reached as far as ██km having impaled 3 cows in ████████.
> **Analysis:** Solids appear to be broken down at a molecular level via a form of dissolution of electron bonds. The resultant energy release appears to dissipate within the vortex. Theory: Energy is absorbed by the vortex and then emitted gradually. The vortex is in an ever cooling state of flux dependent on temperature. Further testing into Thermodynamics suggested. - Dr ████████
**Test 0004 - Date ████/2011**
> **Subject:** Blast cooling to neutralize vortex threat
> **Procedure:** Standard blast chill protocol with liquid nitrogen and atmospheric removal.
> **Results:** After cooling below 39˚C, the liquid contained by SCP-1214 began to freeze, however, the vortex velocity pulverized the frozen liquid into micro-crystals. The velocity of the vortex meant that colliding micro-crystals generated static charge with sufficient voltage to short out the cooling system, and deal major damage to local systems. This behavior continued until finally a layer of plasma formed around the surface of the object and a total of 12gigajoules of energy was discharged into the containment area. Due to precautions no foundation personnel were harmed.
> **Analysis:** It is unknown why the liquid which appears to be 'coffee' freezes at such a relatively high temperature. Subsequent testing is required at a more secure location. Suggest transfer of SCP-1214 to ██████████████, request submitted to █████████.
**Test 0005 - ██████**
> **Subject:██████ ██████**
> **Procedure:** Exposure of SCP-1214 to concentrated 3.5 second bursts of microwaves, with the aim of vaporizing the liquid contents and dispersing the vortex core.
> **Results:**
> **00:06s** Initial results are promising, with the vortex core shrinking 65mm in diameter.
> **00:12s** The vortex core begins to destabilize and dissipate, the liquid begins to boil at 92˚C. Order given to increase the duration of microwave bursts.
> **00:22s** Liquid contents of SCP-1214 are at 102˚C and beginning to evaporate, slight vibration detected in external aluminum casing.
> **00:29s** The aluminum casing is visibly vibrating and the liquid contents are seen to be evaporating in a column of steam, microwave bombardment continues.
> **00:37s** Internal temperature registers 107˚C. Contents appear to have evaporated completely and the vortex appears to have disappeared. Cessation of Microwave bursts.
> **01:16s** Aluminum casing suddenly distorts and begins to crumple. Atmospheric pressure beings to fall and equipment is sucked towards SCP-1214. Alarm triggered and laboratory lock down initiated.
> **01:20s** Vortex becomes visible outside confines of casing due to debris. Atmosphere falling below 4.5 psi, foundation personnel unconscious.
**01:28s** Aluminum casing buckles. Vortex appears to be contracting and stabilizing within the confines of the plastic interior. External temperature has fallen to 9˚C and 2.3 psi. Foundation personnel deceased.

> ** File Note: ** Dr ██████████████ terminated for conducting unsanctioned testing resulting in loss of Foundation resources. Regardless of any benefits or knowledge gained, protocols are in place for a reason, and the security of this division is paramount!
**Addendum 2:** "Yet again, personnel need a physical reminder of what the SCP stands for! Secure, contain and protect should not be confused with Experiment, neutralize, and meddle. This is becoming far too frequent an occurrence." - Dr Bright
