Chapter 1
Part I
Chester Burklight, a young old boy from Chicago, awoke to his cat licking his face. He pushed her away but knew that his alarm would force him to rise from his bed for good all too soon.
Chester stumbled into the shower as he squinted to see. "Mornings. Who needs them?" he groaned.

Rita Mordio sat upright, as was her usual custom, at her breakfast table as she read the morning news, drank some coffee and ate a whole grain piece of toast. As she thumbed through the paper, her eyes brushed past headlines of murder and robbery.
"New York is a disgusting place to live. I have to get out of this place. Maybe somebody will buy me a new apartment soon. Ha! Unlikely."
Rita backed her chair away from the table, set her dishes in the sink and set off for work at Elvert Elementary.

Sitting at a bar in a small city outside of Dallas, Lloyd Irving yelled for the fourth time "ANYBODY HOME!?" Finally, somebody came from the back room to the counter.
"Finally, some damn serivce," Lloyd grunted angrily.
"Pretty queer to see you here," the bartender replied calmly.
"Yeah, my usual bar in Dallas is getting some renovations."
"No, I was referring to the time of day. Not many people come looking for some booze at this hour. Aw well, what's yur poison, mate?"
"Ah, shaddap." Lloyd's head fell and hit the table.
"Oh, so you've already consumed some, have you?" the Bartendender groaned as he dragged Lloyd's passed out body out of the salloon.

Tear Grants gave a disgusted grunt as yet another man walked by her and whistled. "Damn my amazingly curved body," she thought as she opened the door to her womens workout area and winced as the hinges screeched. "When are you gunna get this thing fixed, Chelsey? All of Boston can hear it opening."
"I'm working on it, don't you worry."
"Haha, sure you are."
"The usual?"
"Of course."
Chelsey handed Tear a magnet key for a treadmill. "Have a good sweat."
"Always do."

"Oh **** **** **** **** ****." Will Raynard weaved through San Francisco traffic and he raced towards his councillors office. "**** **** **** ****. I can't be late again." He drifted into the nearest parking spot, took his keys and booked it to the door, and halted to a stop.
*Tick. Tick. Tick.* His councillor had his head resting on one hand, and his other was tapping the desk impatiently. Will inched the door open quietly and sat down.
"You're late." The tapping stopped.
"I'm aware." Will gulped.

Emil Castagnier burst open the hospital doors and looked up at the sun through the thick Los Angelas smog. "Hey, buddy. Haven't seen you in a while, have I? Me and my new hip shall be seeing a lot of you soon, though. Been hiking for 60 years, and some damn hip replacement ain't gunna stop me."
He hopped into his car and drove home for the first time in a long while.

Part I
"Damnit, Chester. How many times have I told you to clean up this damn mess?" Chester's mom kicked through piles of clothing on his bedroom floor.
Chester turned around and quickly grabbed his towel to cover himself up. "You know, mom, you could knock first."
"I pay your tution, I make your meals, I buy your clothes. If I want to come into your room, I'll come in your damn room."
Chester got dressed and left the house as quickly as he could. He hated being in that house. Little did he know, he wouldn't much enjoy going outside today either.

"Settle down, class." Rita stood at the front of the room. Compared to the anarchy being produced by her class, her voice was like a whisper. Rita, not being one to yell, simply ran her fingernails down the chalk board. Groans were heard as the children covered their ears from the terrible sound. "Good, now that we have some peace and quiet, I'd li--"
One of the students stuck up his hand, and began talking without being called on. "Mrs. Teacher."
"Dylan, please wait for me to give you permission to speak next time."
"But Mrs. Teacher. This is really important."
"What is it?"
"I think something bad is happening outside."
Rita opened the blinds about a foot and peered outside. "Oh dear god." She fainted.

Lloyd awoke several hours later. He turned around, but didn't see the saloon. "Hm, that's odd. What kind of bartener drags you farther than out the door?" He scratched his head. "Hm, now that I think of it, there aren't any buildings around. Why would he take me out of town?"
After walking for two minutes in a random direction, Lloyd saw the most puzzling thing of all. A sign that read Now leaving Granbury. "I wasn't out of town.. then where are all the ******* buildings?"
As Lloyd pondered this, the smell of burning met his nose.

Tear stuck the key into the treadmill. She began to choose her speed and slope when the treadmill shut off. "Hm, that's odd." She took the key and tried the one next to it. It didn't turn on at all. "That door isn't the only thing you need to hurry up and fix, Chelsey," Tear called as she walked towards the entrance room. After a couple seconds of no reply, Tear called again. "Chelsey?"
Tear turned the corner. Chelsey wasn't there. Nobody was. The lights went out.

"So, what are we going to do about this, Will?" the councillor asked with an irritated tone.
"Look, I'm trying my best. It's hard to juggle work, these appointments a--" Will was interrupted.
"Stop right there." the councillor got up and opened a drawer of the filing cabinet behind him. He removed some files. He was about to drop them down on the desk when a car alarm was heard. Milliseconds later, shattering glass. Nanoseconds later, a huge crash. Will blinked as the desk in front of him was reduced to a pile of wood and the car skidded across the room.

Emil leaned his head on his arms and sighed. "I forgot how wonderful Los Angelas traffic is. You know what? I have a few good years left, I don't need this." Emil got out of his car and slammed the door. He weaved through the stationary cars towards the side walk. As he took a step onto the sidewalk, his other foot was taken out from under him, and he was blown over.
"What the hell was that?" Emil shifted around to look back towards the street, but the street wasn't there anymore. Just a huge gaping hole.
